TURNING
In turning, the workpiece is fixed to a rotating spindle or platform while the tool remains stationary.
There are different types of turning:
- Plane or face turning: surfaces perpendicular to the workpiece’s axis of rotation
- Conical turning: conical surfaces
- Cambered turning: convex surfaces
- Cylindrical turning: cylindrical surfaces or surfaces axial to the work piece’s axis of rotation
- Helical turning: for making threads or grooves
- Shaping or profiling: for surfaces of complex contour
- Boring: internal surfaces of cylinder or tubes
