TURNING

In turning, the workpiece is fixed to a rotating spindle or platform while the tool remains stationary.

There are different types of turning:

  • Plane or face turning: surfaces perpendicular to the workpiece’s axis of rotation
  • Conical turning: conical surfaces
  • Cambered turning: convex surfaces
  • Cylindrical turning: cylindrical surfaces or surfaces axial to the work piece’s axis of rotation
  • Helical turning: for making threads or grooves
  • Shaping or profiling: for surfaces of complex contour
  • Boring: internal surfaces of cylinder or tubes
